Nations compete in an array of areas, but one of the most hotly contested is the economy. Since the 1960s, world events have shaken economies and new technology and changing needs drive growth or throttle it. The team at Madison Trust studied the top 10 GDPs over the past few decades to create a fascinating graphic showing peaks and dips over time.
The results show these countries as the 10 that consistently had the largest GDPs:
- United States GDP — 27,974 billion (USD)
- China GDP — 18,566 billion (USD)
- Germany GDP — 4,730 billion (USD)
- Japan GDP — 4,291 billion (USD)
- India GDP — 4,112 billion (USD)
- United Kingdom GDP — 3,592 billion (USD)
- France GDP — 3,182 billion (USD)
- Italy GDP — 2,280 billion (USD)
- Brazil GDP — 2,272 billion (USD)
- Canada GDP — 2,224 billion (USD)
The chart shows that the United States by far has the largest GDP with China close behind, racing to close the gap.
