People Invest the Most in These Outdoor Activities

Outdoor activities are more popular than ever. In 2022, Americans spent a record trillion dollars on equipment for outdoor hobbies. The team at AAA State of Play decided to celebrate the love for outdoor recreation by taking a look at what equipment Americans spent the most on. The graphic lays out the most popular activities and most used items.

Here’s the top items invested in:

• Multi-Use apparel and accessories (backpacks, clothing, bug spray, watches, water bottles, etc.)
• RVs
• Boats (including kayaks, canoes, and sailboats)
• “Other” activities (windsurfing, SCUBA diving, water skiing, geocaching, ice skating, running, bird watching, etc.)
• Hunting and trapping equipment
• Motorcycles and ATVs
• Snowboarding, skiing, and snow activity equipment
• Climbing, hiking, and camping equipment
• Horseback riding equipment
• Recreational flight equipment
• Bikes

The AAA State of Play team collected some other data too. They calculated which activities grew most in popularity and what non-traditional activities were most popular.
